Edward K. Lenci was a kenkyūsei (research student) at ICU in 1985-86. Ed – Edo to his friends at ICU – shared the insights of that year in “Recollections and Reflections on My Year in Japan.” (www.jicuf.org/alumni-stories-20-mr-edward-k-lenci/).
After ICU, Ed graduated with honors from Columbia Law School. He worked for the summer after his first year at Columbia for Hamada & Matsumoto (now Mori, Hamada & Matsumoto).
Ed is a partner in the law firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP in New York City. His practice, now in its fourth decade, is focused on the litigation and arbitration of business disputes, both international and domestic, and the defense of businesses sued in class action lawsuits. He is also an arbitrator in the insurance, reinsurance, and financial services sectors.
Ed is Chair of the International Section of the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA). He has made advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion, and building bridges with bar associations in other nations, his top priorities. In June, he was one of the signatories to a “Memorandum of Friendship” between the Osaka Bar Association and NYSBA.
